Bioeconomic Analysis of Tiger Grouper (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus)

BIO-ECONOMIC ANALYSES OF TIGER GROUPER (Epinephelus fuscoguttatus) FISHERY IN THE SELAYAR ISLAND DISTRICT, INDONESIA
Abstract
The tendency to fulfill the export necessity was indicated by the catching of grouper fish without paying attention to the balance between biological and economical conditions. This study aimed to estimate and analyse the actual production and optimal production management regime of dynamic bioeconomic resource of tiger grouper fish in the district of Selayar Island. The respondents were selected in Gusung Island from 3 different villages: Bontolebang, Kahu-Kahu and Bontoborusu. The location was deliberately determined due the reason that the fisherman in those locations catch coral fish particularly tige grouper. The sample was selected on purpose 10% of the population: 82 out of 816 people. The data collected include the average production (the catch), the catch operational cost, revenue, number of trip, number of seasons, fishing ground, and the fishing effort. The data were analysed with dynamic bio-economic analysis using  MS. Excel and Maple 18 software. The result indicates that the actual production of tiger grouper fish in Selayar Island District exceeds the optimal production. The production recommended on the OSY rate was 35.20 tons. The management effort should be put in priority to protect tiger grouper population in the wild.
